Generally speaking, killing high Level monsters quickly is the fastest way to gain XP. You regain a percentage of lost Experience from Character Death in Nightmare and Hell, when you retrieve your body.The Ancients Quest line gives a set amount of Experience when completed.Monsters which have been turned (By Skills such as conversion and confuse) that kill another monster, grants the Character Experience.Whether it's the Character and their Summons or Mercenary, or any Partied unit within 53.33 yards (Roughly 2 screens on the native 800 x 600 resolution of vanilla Diablo 2), Experience is shared. Monsters dying in the vicinity of the Character.The game also features the Secret Cow Level, with the appearance of Hell Bovines.There are three ways for a Character to acquire Experience (XP) in Diablo II: Resurrected. This effect is not unlike a Corpse Explosion, although triggered more like a trap rather than a cast spell. Clicking on the dead cows will cause them to explode violently, dealing damage to the player and spattering entrails around. These dead cows do not indicate anything when the mouse is run over them, but they can be interacted with, unlike the living cows.
